sumire house

Mukoujima, Tokyo, Japan

GRAPHIC DESIGN  LOGO DESIGN

Sumire house is open in the classical Tokyo site, Mukou-jima. The target customers are predominantly foreigners. The house was renovated in keeping with modern Japanese house styles.

The frog is just one of many examples from our rich, Japanese vocabulary, in having the four seasons represented. For example: he sings, when the rain pours down above him. A shower is a contemplative time, a moment to reflect. The shower of rain during early summer is on the one hand, a nostalgic notion, though this still goes on till this very day. The early summer rain may be inconvenient, but is also a beautiful moment of the arrival of summer, alongside the abundant green season. The people are grateful and therefore revel in this moment. Japanese people may feel their lives passing by at a slow pace, during this short time. The frog’s song is synonymous with nostalgia and melancholy. What I aimed for with this design is to let them feel calm, easing them into the Japanese moment.
